I've yet to run across a flaking blue on a 9422, in looking at 100-odd rifles over the past 35 years - so maybe yours was chemically damaged by some solution.

Nothing against the Henry, but its painted, alloy receiver can't match up against the 9422's steel, blued receiver in terms of quality, nor are the other parts up to the quality of a 9422.
